Driver Hits and Kills 12-Year-Old Girl
One man's joy ride turned out to be a fatal decision that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old girl.
Local news sources say that the 41-year-old suspect was drinking and driving on Halloween night when he struck and killed the victim. She had been walking around with friends collecting candy when the suspect barreled down the street without warning. When police arrived on the scene, the suspect was immediately detained on suspicion of DUI. At this time, he is being held at a local jail for the offense.
When he went before a local judge a few days after his arrest, the judge stated that if the man could pay $10,000 in cash he would be released. However, he would be placed on house arrest and have to wear an alcohol sensor bracelet. The suspect could not make the payment.
At this time, he has yet to ask for a plea bargain from prosecutors for the two felony charges filed against him. If he is found guilty of the crimes, he could receive a sentence of three to twenty six years jail time.
