Attempted Robbery of Armored Truck Ends with Guard Shot
An attempted robbery of a Wells Fargo on Spring Mountain Road resulted in one guard being shot, not fatally, and the robbers leaving with nothing.
The guard who was shot was watching an armored truck when a man in a wheelchair wheeled toward him, clearly armed. He demanded that the guard give him money from the truck, and when the guard refused, another man approached and began firing. The guard was hit in the ankle. Both men left on foot; the first, who had been in a wheelchair, did not appear to actually need it, and instead was using it as a distraction for the
theft crime.
Police are searching the local area with dogs, hoping that the criminals are still nearby. Bank robbery is a federal felony, and conviction of even an unsuccessful attempt could land the two men in federal prison for years.
