Burglar Armed with Knife Fatally Shot by Police
Tuesday night, Metro Police were notified of several attempted break-ins and one successful break in on the 4700 block of Fairfax Avenue. When responding to the call, they found the burglar locked in the bathroom of one of the homes that he had allegedly broken into. He refused to obey the orders given by the two police officers, and when he came out of the bathroom he was armed with a knife.
According to police reports, he was an aggressive threat. The officers responded by shooting him; he was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he died of his injuries.
There were a number of calls about the man, who was apparently in his 40s, trying to break into other homes in the area. The family who lived in the home in which he successful entered were afraid of what he might do. The officers who shot the man will be placed on administrative leave, which is protocol for officer shootings.
