Auto Thefts on the Rise in Las Vegas
After gaining the not-so-coveted title as the city for most stolen cars, Las Vegas officials worked hard to bring auto theft offenses down. Despite their hard work, the number of stolen cars is on the rise again in this busy metropolis.
Although there is no single factor attributing to the high number of vehicle thefts, law enforcement officials believe that not only is the poor economy driving people to commit theft crimes, but thieves are getting smarter. These individuals have become wise to the tactics that police use to capture them and are using these very tactics against them. From January to July 23rd of this year, the Las Vegas Metro police had 3,714 reported stolen vehicles. This represents a 5 percent increase for the same time period last year.
Not all areas of Las Vegas are being hit the same, however, as some neighborhoods show a higher incidence of theft. For example, the area between west downtown to Decatur Boulevard showed a 27% increase in stolen vehicles this year.
