Paris Hilton Gets Plea Deal for Cocaine Charges
Socialite, heiress, and celebrity Paris Hilton was charged with felony drug possession after police found .08 gram of cocaine in her purse on August 26. In a plea bargain, she avoided jail and plead guilty to lesser charges of misdemeanor drug possession and obstructing an officer.
Hilton and her boyfriend, then-manager of a club at the Wynn resorts, Cy Waits, were arrested after a Las Vegas police officer smelled marijuana from Waits' SUV. A small bag of cocaine fell out of Hilton's purse when she was getting makeup. Police then found rolling papers and half a tab of Albuterol. She claimed that the purse and cocaine did not belong to her, but that the papers and Albuterol did.
As part of the plea deal, Hilton will be on probation for the next year, will complete drug abuse classes, will do 200 hours of community service, and will pay $2,000 in fines.
Hilton was detained in South Africa earlier this summer on suspicion of marijuana possession, though she was released without any charges being filed.
