51 Arrested During Child Prostitution Awareness Weekend
Across the nation, law enforcement officials began a crack down on child prostitution and other sex crimes involving children. Over the course of 3 days, 51 people were arrested in Las Vegas. Most were arrested for prostitution or solicitation charges.
Countrywide in 40 different cities, over 884 people were arrested. 99 of them were pimps. The officials also rescued child prostitutes from the sex trade; around 69 children were saved. Each year, Las Vegas officials rescue over a hundred children from the sex trade business. Usually the juveniles are aged 14-17, but they have also rescued girls as young as 12.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was heavily involved in the weekend events. They started an "Innocence Lost" program in 2003 and have since instituted 39 different task forces in various cities.
