Paris Hilton, America's most famous, and infamous, socialite, has been detained in South Africa for marijuana possession.
She was detained Friday afternoon after the World Cup match between Brazil and the Netherlands. Details about her case are vague because officials are not allowed to release information until after her court appearance. It is believed that she only had a small amount of the drug on her.
In Nevada, a first offense marijuana possession can have penalties ranging from rehabilitation treatment to a $600 fine.
This is not Hilton's first run-in with the law, although it is her first offense in South Africa. In 2006, her license was suspended following a DUI and reckless driving charge. After being caught driving twice, she was sentenced to 45 days in jail.
