Tips For If You Are Arrested

If you are arrested, it is important that you follow these tips to avoid incurring more charges or harming you case.
1. Don't resist! This is the most important thing you can do. Do not attempt to flee, fight back, or argue with the officers, even if they are wrong or being abusive. There is nothing helpful that you can do in this situation other than quietly follow orders. Once you have an attorney, you can fight back through court action.
2. Don't talk! Exercise your 5th Amendment right to remain silent. Police are not your friends, and WILL use everything you say against you. Don't answer their questions or talk in the squad car. If they interrogate you, don't say anything except that you want to speak to a lawyer. They have to stop questioning you at this point.
3. Ask for Information! Make sure that you get the names and badge numbers of all officers involved in your arrest and questioning. It may be important information later, and they are required by law to give you this information.
4. Call a criminal defense lawyer! A defense attorney is your best hope for getting out of jail and having your charges dismissed.
