Officer's Fatal Shooting of Trevon Cole Ruled Justified

In a decision that many Vegas residents are questioning as corrupt and unfair, incident in which a Metro police officer who fatally shot Trevon Cole has been ruled justified. Although over 1,000 questions were submitted, and the Coroner's office contradicted Officer Yant's statement about Cole's movements, a jury has decided that he did not do anything criminal or worthy of disciplinary action.

The only mistakes that Metro will admit to are that the man they were investigating with the help of an undercover cop, was not the man they thought he was. Police had previously believed that Trevon Cole had an extensive criminal history, although they could not verify some of the charges, and did not make the effort to check his fingerprints. As it turns out, the Trevon Cole they were looking for was a different person, with a different birthday, and with a substantially different weight. It was this mistake that lead police to the other Trevon Cole, who sold about $900 worth of marijuana to an undercover officer.

Trevon Cole was hiding in the bathroom when police barged in. It was dark, Officer Yant had no back up, and his flashlight was not working. He knocked down the bathroom door anyway and shot Cole in the head. Cole was 21 years old.

Internal reviews of the case will be conducted, and it is unknown whether Cole's fiancee or family will take further legal action.
