Miranda Dalton, 29, was sentenced to 8 to 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence in an auto accident that killed 28 year old Paul Maidman. At the scene of the incident, Dalton failed field sobriety tests and the officer reported that she seemed intoxicated, slurred her speech, swayed, and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Dalton had a prior DUI conviction 9 years ago, as well as conviction for battery against a police officer. While on bail, she was seen drinking at a bar, an event that no doubt influenced the judge's determination of her sentence.
Maidman was an Air Force Veteran and his family says he had political aspirations and hoped to attain another college degree. His family heavily argued for the maximum penalty for Dalton.
